The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon (ANCL), commonly known as Lake House, was visited by the RTI team from the Sri Lanka Press Institute on 29th March 2023. We engaged with journalists during this visit, including Mr. Sisira Paranathantri, Director of Editorial at Lake House, and the editors of the ANCL, Silumina, Daily News, Dinamina, Sunday Observer, and Thinakaran Newspapers. An awareness was given on the effective use of the right to information, and promoted the Sri Lanka Press Institute’s RTI Help Desk.
Ms. Shalani Fernando, legal researcher, and Ms. Ashwini Natesan, a consultant at SLPI, provided the journalists with more explanations on the RTI procedure and legal clarifications. The general manager of ANCL, Mr. Sumith Kothalawala, expressed his gratitude for the SLPI’s initiative and the value of this session to the attendees. Mr. Kumar Lopez, the CEO of the Sri Lanka Press Institute, gave closing remarks and encouraged the journalists to use RTI.
