The monthly RTI Journalists Forum by the Sri Lanka Press Institute was held via zoom on 10th of March from 7.30 to 9.00 pm, with the participation of sixty journalists.
This forum was held with the participation of journalists who participated in the series of workshops “Let’s protect our rights through the right to information” organized by SLPI in association with the Australian High Commission’s Direct Aid Program (DAP) in Galle, Kandy, Puttalam, Batticaloa, Kalutara and Hatton.
The main objective of this forum is to introduce SLPI’s RTI Journalists Forum and provide an explanation about its activities and what benefits they can get by joining the forum. Also, senior journalists of the Forum Prasad Poornimal, Sanath Manula and Sivalingam Sivakumaran participated and shared their experiences of being a member of SLPI’s RTI Journalists Forum and how the participation of other members of the Forum strengthened their ability to obtain information while using the Right to Information Act on a particular issue. SLPI’s Chief Executive Officer Kumar Lopez was also present and shared his views on the importance of RTI to journalists and citizens.
Finally, the forum ended with a question and answer session.
