Information on Vehicles Allocated to State Institutions to be released immediately – Order by the Right to Information Commission
The Right to Information Commission has issued an order directing the Presidential Secretariat to immediately disclose information regarding vehicles allocated to state institutions.
Accordingly, the Order instructs the release of details on the number of vehicles allocated to each ministry and the types of those vehicles. This decision was delivered following the hearing of an appeal submitted by journalist Rahul Samantha.
The journalist had requested information from the Presidential Secretariat regarding the staff attached to the Office of the President and the vehicles allocated to them In January 2025, However, the Presidential Secretariat failed to provide the requested information. As a result, journalist Rahul Samantha filed an appeal before the Right to Information Commission.
After a prolonged appeals process, the Commission issued this determination. In doing so, the Commission placed special emphasis on the public’s right to access information, stating as follows:

“The Commission recognizes that citizens have the right to know to which state institutions each vehicle belonging to the government—particularly a fleet that has attracted significant public attention—has been allocated.”
Accordingly, the Commission has ordered the Presidential Secretariat to release the relevant information on or before January 31.
