Remained appointments of two commissioners for Right to Information (RTI) Commission were made by president Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (22.12.2016).<\/p>\n

They received their letters of appointment from president Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Justice A. W. A. Salaam is a distinguished Appeal Court’s judge and Dr. Selvy Thiruchandran is a women\u2019s rights activist, <\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>who was a member of the UN Women’s Civil Society Advisory Group.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The major obstruction for the implementation of Right to Information commission and RTI Act has been terminated now, which will be a great achievement of the citizens who value democracy and freedom of information.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

With those new appointments, commissioners or members of RTI Commission Sri Lanka are as follows:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

  • Senior Lawyer Ms Kishali Pinto-Jayawardena<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Senior Lawyer Somapala Punchi Hewa<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Former Justice A. W. A. Salaam<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Dr Selvy Thiruchandran<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The RTI act will go into effect from the independence day (04<\/span><\/span>th<\/span><\/span><\/sup>) of 2017, February.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
