In commemoration of this day, the Sri Lanka Press Institute (SLPI) held an event on the 1<sup>st<\/sup> of October that was themed \u201cRight &amp; Write to Info\u201d, which focused on the Right to Information (RTI) and the use of RTI in journalism. The event featured a panel discussion, which comprised 4 speakers. The speakers, all of whom were journalists, shared their experiences with RTI in association with their careers.<\/p>\n<p>The panelists Tharindu Jayawardena, discussed the topic \u201cWriting for Transparency and Accountability\u201d, while Sivalingam Sivakumaran, deliberated on \u201cRTI\u2019s Influence in Policies and Regulations in Public Authorities\u201d, Rahul Samantha, focused on \u201cEmpowerment of the Public for Democracy\u201d and\u00a0 Riza Wickramatunga, covered \u201cGroundwork of RTI Policies and Regulations\u201d at the discussion. Kamal Liyanaraachchi, moderator for the panel led the event allowing a trilingual engagement that opened up several avenues of discussion.<\/p>\n<p>Attendees at the event included an array of journalists and editors from well-known Sinhala, Tamil and English newspapers.
