Inquiry on the new Gampaha bus station

By In

Instead of the Gampaha bus stand building number 2 that is currently used a new building is constructed near the Gampaha overhead bridge. The construction activities of the building were completed in the month of June 2018.

Although almost five months have passed since the construction of the new bus stand, it has not yet been vested with the public. The new building is currently being used by random people for various inappropriate activities and the place is in utter disorder. Due to the lack of maintenance the building has also become a garbage dumping site.

An RTI was filed requesting to know the reasons as to why the newly constructed building is not vested with the public. The Gampaha Municipal Council has responded to the RTI and requested the applicant t to make an appointment with the council office to get further details on the issue. It was mentioned that a response following a proper inquiry for the raised question will be provided within 14 days.

Later, a response was sent to the applicant saying that the lack of a sanitary facility had caused the delay and that the building has now completed and vested with the public.
